South Africa’s poor education system

CDE’s Ann Bernstein spoke to Stephen Grootes on Newzroom Afrika about South Africa being one of the worst performing basic education systems in the world. She argued, “Our teachers are struggling, and they need more support so how we select teachers, train them at universities and the standards we hold them to are not good enough.”

This media interview is based on a new CDE report titled “THE SILENT CRISIS: Time to fix South Africa’s Schools.”
