SENIOR RESEARCHER

PURPOSE OF POSITION
The successful candidate will be hired as a member of the research team on a two-year contract and will be expected to write and edit high level briefings, reports, conduct and commission innovative research projects, work with senior researchers and policy analysts, interact with political and business leaders, and contribute to CDE’s mission of promoting reform, growth and inclusion in South Africa.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following projects:
• Research management
• Project management

EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
REQUIRED:
• Master’s in history, sociology, economics, politics or another social science
• Interest in and experience in working with South Africa’s current socio-political challenges
PREFERRED:
• PhD in history, sociology, economics, politics, or another social science
• Excellent written and spoken English and additional language proficiency in Sotho, Zulu, Xhosa
• At least two years’ experience in a similar role

ACCOUNTANT

PURPOSE OF POSITION
To assist the Financial Manager in providing an efficient and accurate accounting, payroll and general finance function to ensure the professional and smooth running of CDE’s operations.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
• Bookkeeping, including capturing of supplier invoices
• Process payroll
• Monthly reconciliations
• Project expenditure and reporting
• Preparing monthly management accounts
• Audit preparation
• Tax compliance

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
REQUIRED:
• BCOM degree
• Minimum five years accounting experience up to trial balance
• E-filing for PAYE, VAT and EMP501 returns
• UIF returns
PREFERRED
• Two or more years’ experience in project accounting and detailed reconciliation
• Experience of the non-profit sector and donor reporting
• Experience with advanced excel
