Debunking the governing party’s jobs strategy

Ann Bernstein, executive director of the Centre for Development and Enterprise, has critiqued the governing party’s jobs promise in an interview with Stephen Grootes, host of The Pulse show on Newzroom Afrika. She warns that the 3.5 million work opportunities promised in the manifesto consist of mainly temporary and part time jobs which will not solve South Africa’s jobs crisis. Bernstein argues that the manifesto does not convey the crisis that we are in, promising the equivalent of just 250 000 to 300 000 jobs over five years. “We need a sense of urgency, determination and commitment and a vision from our political leaders,” she says.
