The Institute for the Study of Economic Culture at Boston University (directed by Peter Berger) and CDE, together with Bobby Godsell of the Anglo American Corporation, undertook a cross-national study of the role of business in transitions to democracy and in socio-economic development.

This, the fourth report in the Development and Democracy series, focuses on the role of business in the racial transition and economic development of Atlanta, Georgia, US. The Atlanta story is full of resonance for South Africa, and the critical challenges facing government and business in a new democracy.
