South Africa’s official unemployment rate has jumped to 29% in the second quarter of the year. Speaking on eNCA, CDE’s Ann Bernstein states that the basic education system is failing the large majority of its learners as 70-80% of schools are not giving quality education to mainly poorer South Africans. This disadvantages their entry into tertiary education or the workforce.
