A basic income grant is not the solution
Speaking to SABC’s Francis Herd about a basic income grant, CDE’s Ann Bernstein pointed out that South Africa is already spending way beyond its means. “We are saying a basic income grant is not affordable and adding a large permanent spending commitment every year from now on will reinforce the unsustainable trajectory of our fiscal policy and this will actually in the end lead to fewer jobs and a very dire situation,” she said.
