The Siren Song of Localisation: Why localisation policy will not lead to industrialisation
The Centre for Development and Enterprise (CDE) hosted the launch of a new report on localisation, an approach to industrialisation and development that government is committed to but which will not achieve its stated goals.
The report, The Siren Song of Localisation: Why localisation policy will not lead to industrialisation was written with the assistance of two eminent experts in the field, Professors Lawrence Edwards and David Kaplan. It makes the case that proposals that have been made, while benefiting select industries and firms, will raise the costs of doing business in SA, reduce exports and hold back growth.
Ann Bernstein, CDE’s executive director presented the report’s key findings and recommendations.
Professors Lawrence Edwards and David Kaplan presented at the launch to add their comments and take questions with CDE.
This webinar aired on Tuesday 16 November 2021
