Is localisation the answer to build the economy?
CDE’s Ann Bernstein spoke to Stephen Grootes of Newzroom Afrika to discuss the disadvantages of localisation on the local economy. She said, “Localisation sounds attractive but it is actually going to make this economy more expensive, a harder place to do business and it will end up not creating the jobs and new firms we want especially new black firms.”
This media interview was based on CDE’s latest publication titled: “The Siren Song of Localisation: Why localisation policy will not lead to industrialisation.”
