The Covid-19 lockdown has had an enormous impact on small business. On 29 April 2020, CDE hosted a webinar on the implications of Covid-19 for the small business sector.

Professors Ed Glaeser and Michael Luca from Harvard University, presented research on small business in the US and how they are coping with the crisis.

John Dludlu, CEO at the Small Business Institute, discussed the interventions introduced by government to assist the sector in South Africa since the announcement of the lockdown.

Andrew Donaldson, Senior Research Officer at SALDRU, UCT, shared some general insights from a recent survey of firms at the V and A Waterfront in Cape Town.

Ben Bierman, Business Partners’ Managing Director, discussed some of the responses he has had from business to the Anton Rupert R1-billion fund and some general thoughts about what the response to this fund is telling us about the situation for small firms during the current crisis.
