Speaking to Cape Talk’s John Maytham, CDE’s Ann Bernstein discussed the draft of the critical skills list which was mentioned in President Cyril Ramaphosa’s 2021 State of the Nation Address and released by government on 18 February 2021. She said, “For a long time, CDE has argued that South Africa needs a completely different approach to skilled immigration. We’re a country with a massive shortage of skills. That does not mean you stop training people or fixing the education system but we should be opening our doors to as many skilled foreigners as we can possibly attract.”
