Can South Africa afford a basic income grant?

CDE’s Ann Bernstein spoke to Sifiso Skenjana of Power FM’s Power Business about the basic income grant. She said, “South Africa already spends more than it can afford. We have had one of the fastest growing rises in debt of any country from 28% of GDP to 70% between 2007 and 2020. We are already in fiscal trouble; for the last two to three years the budget has been cutting essential things.”
