Executive director of the Centre for Development and Enterprise Ann Bernstein spoke to Bruce Whitfield on 702’s The Money Show after the release of the 2023 General Household Survey results. Bernstein spoke to the importance of economic growth as a foundation for South Africa’s recovery stating “It is not everything but without it, we can’t get anywhere.

“We have to start from the beginning – effective countries with growing economies have a reasonably capable state and a vision of where they want to get to”. She is hopeful that the post-election period will be used to have a fresh look at growth and make it the ‘determining priority’ for government .
